CrossFit And Moms

What type of training program would best prepare a woman for the demands of pregnancy, labor and postpartum responsibilities? In fitness and coaching, we call it “specificity of training.” This principle is the general belief that a training program should be designed and performed with the relative desired training outcome in mind. It is without question that moms-to-be are about to enter the fitness challenge of their lives, and the winning program must improve strength and must be functional.

Given the dynamic physical demands of pregnancy and postpartum, a training program for expectant mothers should include all 10 of physical skills (cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy) and weight lifting. All of which, CrossFit has endorsed into their plan.

Crossfit La Verne has taken an active part in many of our moms-to-be fitness programs. Most of whom continued crossfitting to within days of their deliveries. We have watched them produce beautiful, healthy children, and then return shortly after. We always advise increased awareness and good sense about your body as well as the environment during pregnancy. Drink a lot of water, then drink more water. Know your limitations!
